- In Reading, we are focusing on BLACK HISTORY through readings, videos and discussions. I was excited to announce to the students today that I attended a workshop on PROJECT BASED LEARNING yesterday, and we are starting our first PBL activity for Black History in pairs! PBL involves encouraging the students to create a rich question, which they will then investigate in groups. Students take ownership by researching their topic and choosing ways to present their topic. The amazing thing about PBL is that it covers various subject areas and strands. For this particular project, students will be working on different expectations in reading, writing, media and oral communication.  The students and I created the success criteria together and then each pair worked on brainstorming for their project- I was super impressed with the different ways the pairs brainstormed!

 - In Writing, we continue persuasive writing and conferencing.  Students will be completing their first draft next week. Students recently completed their media advertisement for a new technology/video game idea and are now completing the persuasive report.

- In Social Studies, we continue to work on Aboriginal studies and in Science, we are learning about the moon.  Both of these subjects are taught using online sites and videos through Edmodo, so students are encouraged to visit Edmodo often. Stay tuned for a PBL activity on Space!

- In Health, we are investigating the effects of using dangerous drugs and how to say no! I am looking forward to the students' Bitstrips comics!

- In Math, we have completed chapter 7 and I will be returning the students' Math tests tomorrow- so far, the results are FABULOUS! Very proud of you students! Below are a few pictures of Math lessons/activities from last week:

Enjoy the following video! It was shared at the Tech workshop I attended yesterday as an inspiring intro to the day! I shared it with the students today & they loved it :)

Congratulations to our STUDENTS OF THE WEEK: KEON & MICHAEL!!

Have a great long weekend, hopefully spent with family, and stay tuned for future weekly updates!
