A week of candy, graphs & spooky stories!

Hello students & parents!

Sorry for the delay but here is last week's update!

REMINDERS:

- Please bring in the interview form as soon as possible to ensure you get the time you wish! I am looking foreward & hoping to meet with all parents as your child will be presenting their academic portfolio, which is a collection the students put together of their strengths, favourites & areas of need for the term.

- Interview times are Thursday November 15th, 5:30-9pm & Friday November 16th, 8:30-11:30am & Friday is a PD day for the students.

- Hot dog forms are currently being collected until Friday- please bring them in this week!

- Science biome presentation & quiz is postponed to next week to allow more time for students to polish their presentations.

- Please check out the previous post on the November calendar as there have been some changes.

- Parents, please do not bring in edible treats to school for the other students in your child's class due to allergies.  We appreciate your support!

WEEKLY UPDATE:

- In Math, students continue to work on chapter 3- data management.  They have been creating survey questions, tally charts, line and bar graphs and scatter plots.  Students also continue to create frayer models for words they are unsure of.  Students are encouraged to review lessons carefully by working on Nelson Math as the unit test is coming up!

- In Language, we continue to practice the writing process with our Halloween narratives.  Students were involved in a mini lesson about how we edit, revise, conference and publish our work. Students are at different stages of the writing process, so for example, some students may be working on their outline, while others may be working on drafting or conferencing with me- the point is that they are always writing when they visit 'work on writing'. Parents, please help your child edit/revise their work if you can- thank you!  The Daily 5 continues to take place each day & I remain so impressed with how well the students are doing!

- In Social Studies, students are investigating Canada's connections to the United States.  Students are encouraged to follow the US election as it is big news!  In Science, students are working on their biome presentations and are currently participating in a mold experiment at home to investigate how living things grow in different environments. Parents, please ensure your child does not touch the mold & that they throw out the bag once the experiment is complete- thank you!

- In Art, the students are creating spooky book covers for their Halloween narratives.  I can't wait to see the final product!!
